People and Climate Charity Big Night Out!

Come and join in the fun at this fabulous charity event: guaranteed to be a great party night out!

All proceeds to Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity and Extinction Rebellion Derby.
· DRS do vital work to support vulnerable and displaced people both here in UK and in Calais, Dunkirk and Syria.
· XR Derby helps those concerned about climate change to speak out to protect our planet and our common future through peaceful and loving action.

Taking place at Derby’s Irish Centre (11 Becket St, Derby DE1 1HT) we've put together a stunning line up of acts to entertain everyone, raise some funds and celebrate a year of action that's making a positive difference in people's lives! Artists include local talent with national and international acclaim!
Doors open 7.30... The Show starts at 8.15pm.

Singer-songwriter Maggie Braley combines folk, soul and jazz influences to create beautiful songs that speak to the heart. We are delighted she will be opening the evening with her wonderful voice and spirit.

Station are one of the top bands on the professional circuit and have entertained at headline venues all over UK and abroad, including the Ritz, the Savoy, the NEC and now back home in DERBY! Their mix of high energy, popular indie / rock / pop numbers will keep the dance floor alight and the atmosphere buzzing!

Some reviews of Station: “They looked and sounded fantastic” “captivated the audience from start to finish” “Loads of warmth, energy, they gave us a wonderful night to remember”…
And featuring DJ Dr Matt's dancefloor - friendly retro vinyl. All the favourite tunes from the 60s to the 90s. We just love his grooves!

We look forward to seeing you there. It’s going to be a night to remember!!

DRS and XR Derby would like to thank Derby Irish Centre for providing the venue at no charge, as part of their programme of supporting charities.

DRS Hike in the Peaks

Blow away the cobwebs! Come and join us on an autumnal hike in the beautiful countryside of Youlgreave, Bradford Dale and Alport in the Peak District National Park!

Meet at St Anne's at 10 a.m. then drive to Alport where we will park and set off on our hike. We will walk to Youlgreave along the Bradford, lunch there and then walk back to Alport (possibly via the Lathkill depending on how we’re fixed for time and what the conditions are like underfoot).

We have the village hall booked from 12-1.30pm where a lovely lady who lives in the village has offered to welcome us at the village hall and do the tea’s, coffees and provide cakes for us (we don’t need to be there for the full 1 ½ hours). We would aim to be back at St Anne's at 4pm.

The whole walk will only be less than 3 miles; even the lazy ones can mange that (you know who you are...!!!)

Sandwiches will be provided free for refugee and asylum seeker volunteers.

Waterproofs, sturdy shoes or boots needed - do let us know if you need to borrow something!

Don't stop the music!

After a hugely successful launch yesterday, we are all very excited about this new DRS music project. Together we will be learning songs from other cultures and singing and playing together for the sheer joy of it (but a Christmas number one would be a bonus. Am I right?)
No experience or talent necessary. All welcome.

*Women and children's items**

As a rule we cater to men and boys as they are the people that have little to no assistance whatsoever.
There are families on the streets but generally they are the people taken care of first by the Parisian communities and associations. Women and children's items are the easiest items to get hold of as there is always soooo much to be had. If we openly say we accept these items, we would have an entire warehouse flooded with just these items.

Men and boys are the majority and their items are the hardest to get hold of. Especially small and medium sizes, as generally there are no large refugee people.

We try to only accept the absolute necessary items for women and children.

So we strictly only accept these items:

▪Women and children's Winter jackets.

▪Women and children's Leggings.

▪Women and children's hoodies.

▪Children's shoes.
▪Children's hats, gloves and scarves

▪Womens sanitary products

▪Nappies/diapers

We have loads of women's shoes so we don't need any of these
We don't need any jeans or trousers, tops or dresses, hats or scarves.

DRS do the Derby Triathlon!

LUCY KAY SAYS….

Want to raise some money for DRS? Want to challenge yourself physically and mentally?

I’m putting together a DRS team to take park in the Derby Triathlon later this year. The event takes place in Etwall, Derby. Lifts will be available and there will be funding for entry for those that need it.

We’ve done running events before but this will be the first triathlon we’ve done as a group, and I think it’ll be the first time for most of us! I certainly have never competed in a triathlon before, so it will be a great challenge.

The details of the event are:
Swim 🏊‍♂️ 400m (16 lengths of a 25m pool)
Cycle 🚲 16km in the countryside mostly flat, a few gentle hills
Run 🏃‍♀️ 5km in and around Etwall

To enter you must have a bike and helmet.

Let me know if you’re interested. Once I’ve got an idea of numbers, we’ll set up a Facebook group and a fundraising page so we can all start getting some sponsorship!

Happy 4th birthday DRS!

On or around the 7th September 2015, Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity was born!
We would like to celebrate this event as you might celebrate any fourth birthday....with cakes and games and prezzies and, best of all, FRIENDS!
We're thinking pass the parcel, musical chairs, pin the tail on the camel, jelly, balloons, music....
If you would like to help organise this event, please get in touch. If you just want to turn up, eat too much sugar and be sick, that's fine too
