Safe and sound...

On 23rd November we were delighted to welcome PCSOs Sophie and Amy for the first of what, we hope, will be regular visits to DRS!

Sophie and Amy met volunteers, had a cuppa, chatted to one of our Safeguarding Team and left us lots of useful freebies, like keyring torches and bicycle bells.

Keeping volunteers and visitors safe is the number one priority for DRS. As well as having clear measures in place in case of fire or First Aid issues, we want to ensure we have effective Safeguarding policies, especially as many of our volunteers can be vulnerable.

Our Safeguarding Team have recently taken part in local authority training and our whole team took part in training on the 5th October. Starting in January, all volunteers will be given a mini “Welcome” booklet, containing all useful numbers and advice for dealing with a range of issues. Visits from Sophie and Amy will be .a valuable addition to these measures and will reassure us that we are doing the right things.

Some of our volunteers may have had very negative experiences with the police. Saturday’s visit will have been a very positive experience!
