Happily hiking in Hartington
Our Wonderful DRS Walk in the Peak District National Park
Early on Sunday, 28th June, an excited crowd of 65 DRS volunteers gathered at our DRS home, eager to climb into the huge ‘Warrington’s’ coach and set off for the village of Hartington, where we would begin our annual hike. As usual, the British weather teased us with some early showers but, by the time we were posing for photographs around the village memorial statue, blue sky was breaking through clouds, and the sun began to shine.
This annual event is much loved by all: a special day of great conversation, fresh air, stunning views, sparkling streams – and plenty of fun-filled exercise! Good-natured fellow walkers smiled and waved as we passed by, clearly inspired by our joyful family of friends.
Whilst some of us munched our picnic, others showed off their impressive athletic powers by dashing to the very top of steep hillsides! A highlight of our hike was the beautiful view of the church, as we wound our way down the narrow lane to Hartington Village.
Sitting out-side the Village Shop, there was plenty of time to relax, eat ice-cream and share moments from our lovely day. Our coach journey home was peacefully sleepy, just as it should be, after a perfect walk in the Peak District, with friends.
Thank you, to all who made our ‘Walk in the Peak District’ so wonderful, in every way.
Many thanks to The Peak District Foundation, Morrison’s Supermarket and Hartington Village Store: Your contributions made our adventure possible. We truly appreciate your kindness.
