From Derbyshire to Calais

Yesterday, a van stood waiting,

and volunteers filled it high,

with sleeping bags and blankets,

with clothes and tents to dry.

A little bit of kindness,

packed carefully in every space,

then Jack set off for Hastings,

with hope upon his face.

And there, with other donations,

the journey will continue on,

across the water, carrying care,

until it reaches Calais dawn.

So from Derbyshire we send you

more than boxes, more than things.

We send our love to Calais,

and all the hope that kindness brings.

The road may still be difficult,

the journey may be long,

but when we travel it together,

we make the road more strong.

So thank you, Jack, for driving,

and thank you, every friend,

who gives a little something

to help another mend.

From DRS, with love and hope,

our message travels too:

To all our friends in Calais,

we are thinking still of you.
