Derby Wall project

DRS were delighted to be invited to take part in this lovely community project by the main organiser, Maggie. Here are the details of the project, which is ongoing until August 2023!

“The Derby Wall is a community art project which will enable people to express their thoughts, emotions and experiences to create a snapshot of what life has been like during the COVID19 pandemic, made up of over 1,000 canvas printed tiles painted by members of the public, various schools and organisations, lead by Derby based artist Maggie Roper-Attenborrow.

Maggie came up with the idea of The Derby Wall based on the Berlin Wall, which became a symbol of people’s expressions of their emotions and feelings. The Derby Wall is to celebrate communities coming back together, after the imposed isolation of lockdowns.

Members of the public are invited to paint their own tiles to be added to ‘The Derby Wall’ at the Museum of Making on Tuesday 16 August & Wednesday 17 August.”

DRS volunteers used their tiles in a variety of imaginative ways. From flags of home country to inspiring messages like, “better together”
