Far from home

Today, among our 105 volunteers, there were young men from Burton, Long Eaton and even one young man from Sutton-in Ashfield! All of these are small towns, offering little or no support to asylum seekers thousands of miles away from home and family.

These young men instead should be placed in cities with support networks, colleges offering ESOL, diverse and vibrant communities where they could feel they belong.

But the backlog in processing asylum claims, which is ONLY the fault of this government, means that completely unsuitable locations are being used, locations where some locals might not be so welcoming and where the asylum seekers might feel ill at ease.

Almost as if it is a deliberate government policy isn't it?
